Interview with Lizzy

1. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

In the third grade! I wrote an essay about stars, and for some reason, that sparked my interest in writing.

2. How long does it take you to write a book?

It takes me 2-3 weeks generally, depending on length, then another 1-2 for editing, beta reading and formatting.  I have a freelance copyeditor who works with me and reviews everything. My goal next year is to slow down and write longer books.

3. What is your work schedule like when you're writing?

Let’s see … I tend to write in obsessive spurts!  I just started doing Pilates in the morning, so I do my Pilates then check emails, social media and my website for fanmail.  If I have to run errands, I’ll do those in the morning, too.  Usually then I try to focus on writing for most of the day, until my hubby comes home and I make dinner.

4. What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

Aside from writing fast, I’d have to say my quirk is dreaming about scenes from books or writing in my sleep.  LOL! It sounds funny, but my stories don’t stop flowing when I’m somewhere beside my computer.  They’re being written almost all day long.  It’s not the greatest thing if you’re really tired and want a peaceful night’s sleep!

5. Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

Mainly dreams and a wild imagination.  I’m an avid dreamer, so a lot of times, books will start with a scene from a certain dream.  I’ll capture that scene or special-whatever-it-is then build the story around it.

6. When did you write your first book and how old were you?

My first real ‘novel’ was written when I was in junior high.  It was a sci-fi adventure called “Last of the Power Users” about these two kids who were the last people to have magic in the world.  It was AWFUL!

7. What do you like to do when you're not writing?

I’m picking up a couple of new hobbies, because I do need a break from writing every once in awhile.  I’m going to start beading soon, and I’ve always wanted to make things for the house.  Like pillows.  I have no attention span, so I may never get past making a coaster, but I want to try!

8. What does your family think of your writing?

They think it’s awesome.  My mom has always told me I was meant to be a writer, and my hubby manages my website and a lot of the social media accounts so I have more time to write.  They’re super-supportive!

9. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in writing your book?

Probably that people actually liked it.  Haha!  I never expected anyone else to like either my writing style or my stories.  I started out writing for me and what I wanted to read.  And, I spent over ten years getting rejected (or ignored) by traditional publishers and agents, so I started to think I couldn’t write or my stories were bad.

10. How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

I just released the eleventh and have another coming up towards the end of the month.  My favorite is probably “Damian’s Oracle,” because I loved the main character, Sofi!

11. Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?

I get tons of feedback from readers: through emails, Facebook comments/messages, website comments, Twitter … they’re super supportive.  I’ve been just thrilled at how positive and genuinely interested in my books they are because again, I never ever thought anyone else would like them!  I love interacting with my fans; they give me so much positive energy. When I have a bad day or a down day, I just reread their comments or spend more time than usual interacting with them, and that interaction wipes away any frustration I feel.

12. As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

I wanted to be a writer!

13. What is your favorite food?

I’m a total foodie.  Chocolate, pastries, cookies, anything sweet and buttery … I love it all! Which is why I’m overweight and trying to slim down!

14. What are your current projects?

I’ve got a slew of them in the works for this year!  I posted the schedule I’m working towards.

April: Rebel Heart
May: The Grey God (War of Gods)
June: Kiera’s Sun (Anshan Saga)
July: Dark Summer (Witchling Trilogy)
Aug: Autumn Storm (Witchling Trilogy)
Sep: Xander’s Chance (Original Beings)
Oct: Winter Kiss (Witchling Trilogy)
Nov: Gabriel’s Hope (Rhyn Eternal)
Dec: Shadow Rising (Foretold Trilogy)

15. Is there anything additional you would like to share with your readers?

Just another huge THANK YOU for all your support and feedback!  I couldn’t do this without my readers. 
