My Review:

Rae of Hope by W.J. May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

W.J. May has written a story filled with magic, suspense, and a touch of romance, I thoroughly enjoyed Rae of Hope. The writing was good, character description were well written that you felt you knew everyone well. The story flowed extremely well and I was quite shocked when I realized I was at the end. W.J. May’s writing is really good, and I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

Rae who has experienced the loss of her parents has been living with her aunt and uncle in New York since she was 6 years old; she has had a good life and has no complaints. So when she receives an acceptance letter to the Guilder Boarding School in England she is not sure why her uncle applied for her to attend there, but doesn’t question him.

When she arrives we meet her new roommate Molly who becomes a great friend to Rae and ends up very important to her. Of course there are many other great characters in this book and they are also very well written so you get to know them. As Rae learns more about the school and her own families history she is shocked to find out her father was a pretty evil man and all the people in her school teachers and classmates seem to know more about her family then she does.

Trying to prove that she is not her father’s daughter Rae knows she is good deep inside. Now the waiting begins as everyone is watching to see what happens to Rae when she turns sixteen, as this is when they get their powers; and her powers may be extreme. This is all I can say without writing spoiler alerts. Rae of Hope is a must read and I suggest you go grab a copy.

I recommend Rae of Hope to anyone who loves YA Paranormal and its worth every cent you may have to pay for it. I have rated it a 4 out of 5 and only thing I can say that I didn’t like is that I wish it didn’t end so fast. Now to find out when the next book comes out?

My Review:

Dark Nebula (The Chronicles of Kerrigan #2) by W.J. May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dark Nebula is the second book in the series The Chronicles of Kerrigan, W.J. May has written what I would say is a great addition to this series. I was quite excited to receive a copy to read and review to go along with her blog tour.

Rae who has had time off from school is now returning for a new school year, and she is quite excited about seeing her boyfriend Devon. Even though they have to keep things a secret as they are not allowed to date she just knows this is going to be a great year. We get to see all Rae’s old school friends and even get to meet some new ones.

This book is full of secrets and suspense and I couldn’t put it down.

The cover for the second book is great, I feel like it shows how much Rae has grown and became a bit more independent and accepting of her gifts and tatu.

This series is fantastic, W.J. May writing is superb and the story and plot flows well, once you start reading it you cannot put it down.
Of course I don’t want to give too much away and if you haven’t read Rae of Hope the first book in this series I would say go pick it up.

Rae of Hope and Dark Nebula are both very well written and if you’re looking for a new series to read and fall in love with I would go out and buy them today. I have rated Dark Nebula a 4 star rating and cannot wait to read more in this series.

About the Author:

Wanita May grew up in the fruit belt of Ontario - St.Catharines. Crazy-happy childhood, she always has had a vivid imagination and loads of energy.

The youngest of six -- four older brothers, and a sister -- taught her at a young age to be competitive in all aspects of life.

At sixteen, she began competing in athletics (track and field) and before she turned seventeen, she was representing Canada in high jump. She continued to compete, breaking Canada's JR High Jump record (1.92m - 6' 3 1/2" for those metric-ly challenged). She attented University of Toronto, and Kansas State University - winning CIAU's and becoming All-American 6x - NCAA Indoors Runner Up + more.

But you're not interested in her athletic career - unless of course you're curious to know she stands 1.70m (5'7") and has jumped 20cm over her head on more than one occassion. She's represented Canada at the World Championships, World Jrs., won Francophone Games, and loved every minute of every competition. From the grueling workouts, the crazy weights she lifted on her back, the days she thought her lungs were going to spit out of her mouth for lack of oxygen, the travelling around the world and the opportunity to read - her favourite past time.

Wanita and her husband now run an online business, dealing in antiques and collectables - particularly jewelry and porcelain.

After her father passed away in 2009, from a six-year battle with cancer (which she still believes he won the fight against), she began to write again. A passion she'd loved for years, but realized life was too short to keep putting it off.

She is currently represented by Dawn Dowdle of Blue Ridge Literary Agency. Wanita is a writer of Young Adult, Fantasy Fiction and where ever else her little muses take her.

Bad Blood by Ginny Lurcock Blog Tour

Title:  Bad Blood
 Author:  Ginny Lurcock
ISBN:  1480177172 (ISBN13: 9781480177178)
252 Pages
Genre:  Urban Fantasy/Mature YA

Book Description:

High school senior Victoria “Tori” Reeve has it pretty good. She’s rich, she’s smart, and she’s popular. What more could a girl ask for? Sure, she’s a little lonely, what with being single and her best friend going off to college and all, but she’s got her work at the Spaulding Crisis Center to keep her busy. When she gets a new boss in the very easy on the eyes form of Isaac Larsen, suddenly her volunteer work feels a lot less like work. Even if he does seem to cause Tori to break out into spontaneous fits of foot in mouth disease. Somehow in spite of her blunderitis, Isaac still seems to be interested in her in a more-than-employer or even more-than-friends kind of way.

So really she should have known that things would go sideways.

Trouble comes to Spaulding, and that trouble seems to be centered on Tori and the Crisis Center. Is she really the focus? Or does this all have to do with the new mysterious man in her life? In her efforts to find out, Tori stumbles across some secrets. Skeletons that might have been better off left in the closet. As it turns out, Spaulding is a hot spot for bad blood…

GUEST POST:  You’re My Obsession

So I’ve been asked if any piece of myself goes into my characters… and aside from my razor sharp whip, I’d have to say no, not really.  (I can practically hear people rolling their eyes… but this is my guest post so I’m ignoring them.)  No, my characters are not based on me, or anyone in my life… but they do tend to pick up whatever weird and/or quirky obsession I have at the moment.

See, I have the attention span of a hyperactive kitten.  This means that my obsessions can last from minutes (knitting for example- since I CANNOT knit) to… well okay… years in the case of something like World of Warcraft.  But that doesn’t count because that was an addiction, not an obsession.

Yes, I am going to hide behind semantics.

Typically though, my obsessions only last a few months.  Rarely longer than a season.  Occasionally they’ll cycle back through, but that really has no bearing on this post so I’m not even sure why I’m mentioning it.  What does matter is that it’s a pretty good bet that before I’ve finished a novel, my obsessions have shifted to something new and different.  Which actually kind of works out because it means that my characters all have new, different, and what I’m telling myself are interesting quirks.

What are Tori’s quirky obsessions?  Well I’m glad that you asked.

Hello Dolly:  I’m actually kind of a huge movie freak, but I go through these phases where I want to watch one movie over and over.  And over.  And over.  Hello Dolly was the movie I was watching over and over when I first started seriously writing Bad Blood.  Mainly because I love it, but also because my kid used to dance in her bouncy chair to it.  Oh how I miss her being contained to a bouncy chair…

Wall-E:  A robot who loves Hello Dolly and get’s obsessed with random shit he finds lying about?  He’s practically my mechanical God.

80s action flicks:  Tori doesn’t limit herself to 80s action flicks, but since I’ve never actually seen a John Hughes movie all the way through outside of The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller (I am the worst.girl.ever) all I can claim responsibility for are the action flicks.

Paranormal smut:  Yes, I know… my 17 year old main character reads smut.  I’m a terrible parent (err… author…) letting her read those dirty, graphic novels that claim to be “romance” and are really boot knockin’ naughtiness.  I should probably be arrested for corruption of a fictional minor.

I briefly considered making Tori 18 because of this… and because of a scene that I had to change from vaguely graphic to even more vaguely graphic…  (it’s like a Monet that was scanned and saved in paint now) but in the end I stuck with my minor.  Let’s be honest, how many of us hadn’t gotten our hands on a magazine, book, or movie we really shouldn’t have by the time we were 17?

Which is the same argument I’m going to have to use on Phin in 15 years, I just know it…

Coming in below books and movies in my list of personal obsessions is food.  And I’m going to say below, because it sounds sad when I say “outside of my husband and child, food is the most important thing in my life.”

Hot Chocolate with Fluff:  I never drank coffee before I had my daughter.  After I lived on it, but that is neither here nor there.  Back in the long, long ago, I was strictly a hot chocolate girl.  Always with fluff.  Okay, shameful secret time, I would get the powdered kind with the freeze dried marshmallow bits… AND THEN ADD FLUFF.  (In case you’re wondering how I got fat, shit like this.)  Fluff is really the key to a soul soothing hot chocolate though.  And if you don’t believe me, next really cold day make some for you and a loved one.  Then you each take a spoon full of the white fluffy good stuff (fluff, perverts) and submerge it.  Whoever’s Fluff leaves the spoon and floats to the surface first, wins.

Oh did I not mention it was a race?  I probably should have.

Pineapple and pepperoni pizza:  There might have been a period of time where I ate pepperoni and pineapple pizza at least once a week.  Maybe.  Perhaps.  Seriously, if you have not tried it, you’re missing out.

I don’t do that anymore though.

Now pineapple and jalapeno are my toppings of choice.

(and again, I wonder why I’m fat…)

So there you have it.  All of the (some of the) quirks that Tori and I share.

See, we’re TOTALLY different.

About the Author (taken from the back of Bad Blood)

I am so bad at these, that it causes me physical pain.  No wait, that was a splinter…  Never mind.

Ginny Lurcock lives in New Hampshire with her husband whom she adores, her daughter, whom she also adores, and their cat.  Who she likes alright.

Oh, and her father, his two cats, her sister and her sister’s boyfriend.

When not writing she enjoys playing games (of the board and video variety) or reading to the point of obsession (she’s not an addict, she can quit whenever she wants), watching intelligent television, mindless television, sports, movies and listening to music.

Basically, she likes all the things.   And somehow she still manages to find the time to be bored.

She also breaks the seal.
